The Climate Data Utility’s mission is to provide a trusted, central source of company-level climate-related data that is accessible to all.
In June 2022, French President Emmanuel Macron and the United Nations Special Envoy for Climate Ambition and Solutions Michael R. Bloomberg established the Climate Data Steering Committee (CDSC).
Chaired by Mary L. Schapiro, the CDSC brings together global policymakers, regulators, and international organizations, informed by data providers and civil society – to improve access to standardized climate data.
The CDSC works to ensure that key company-level climate-related data is accessible for use by a wide range of stakeholders.
In November 2022, the CDSC published recommendations to create a global, centralized, open climate data repository: the Climate Data Utility, formerly known as the Net-Zero Data Public Utility. Designed to integrate with the UNFCCC’s Non-State Actor Zone for Climate Action, the Climate Data Utility serves as a centralized platform for climate-related disclosures from multiple sources.
Reflecting the growing importance of accessible, high-quality company-level climate data, the CDSC continues to engage with advice and recommendations for the ongoing development of the Climate Data Utility as a global, open repository.

The Climate Data Utility core team is composed of experts from the climate data, product development, and engineering fields.
A Technical Advisory Board (TAB or Advisory Board) was formed to consult on the technical development of the Climate Data Utility. The Advisory Board will provide regular feedback to the Climate Data Utility on the Climate Data Utility’s implementation of the CDSC’s recommendations and will provide advice to the Climate Data Utility on the technical feasibility of any additional guidance/recommendations issued by the CDSC.
